What is Trauma?

Trauma may involve only one event or a long-term or repetitive event. These experiences can leave a person overwhelmed and unable to cope. These feelings can be delayed by weeks or years and can have serious long-term negative effects. Most people think of trauma in terms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), however, each one of us has been traumatized at some point in our lives. High stress life events such as death, job loss, divorce, financial set-backs, health issues, crime victim, betrayal, accidents, abuse (mental, physical, emotional), etc... can leave a person traumatized.
