Building Service Tech
Under general supervision, repairs and maintains mechanical machinery, plumbing, physical structures, and electrical wiring and fixtures of City owned buildings and facilities. Locates and diagnoses trouble in the electrical systems or equipment using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments. Replaces defective electrical receptacles, switches, thermostats, fuses, electrical wiring, lighting, etc. Repairs plumbing fixtures in City facilities using plumbing equipment, replaces sinks, water coolers, and toilets. Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment. Paints structures, and repairs woodwork with carpenter’s tools. Performs a variety of general building maintenance activities such as hanging doors, installing locks, repairing roofs, and replacing broken windowpanes. Lays out electrical wiring and lights for special events. Bends and cuts conduit. Repair or replace all exit lights or emergency lights. Performs other duties as assigned. Practical knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, and plumbing work. Ability to climb and work from ladder or Genie Lift. Physical ability to perform essential job functions. High School Diploma or GED and three years of well-rounded electrical and general building maintenance experience required. Must possess a valid driver’s license, which is to remain valid as a condition of continued employment. Must obtain EPA certification within twelve months. Will work in a non-smoking work environment. Must pass a background and driver’s license check, physical exam, including a drug screen.
